Log Home Chinking North Idaho

Chinking services in North Idaho

Chinking your log home is an important step to seal your log home against the elements. It is important to go over any seam on your logs and make sure that they are properly chinked to stop air from entering and escaping your home, as well stopping the bugs from getting into your home. On previous log home restorations the we have completed, we have had customers receive 50% increases in efficiency of their heating and cooling costs! that means less firewood, or less money out of your pocket every time you turn the heat and AC on.

When selecting a product to use for your chinking, we recommend using “permachink” products or Sashco products. You also have to decide what the look is that you are going for. “Log Jam” is a great chinking material that has grain in it. it is great at mimicking the texture of wood. it looks like mortar after it is installed. “Log Builder” is another great option. instead of a “mortar” look, it had a smooth sealant look to it. It shrinks and stretched just as much as the Log Jam, it just has a different look to it.

When chinking North Idaho log homes, it is important to use a proper chinking product because the logs shrink and stretch so much with the changing climate. In the winter your logs actually shrink, and in the summer they expand. Because of this, it is important to use a super elastic chink material that will expand and contract with your logs.

When applying chink, it is important to have the right tools. At North Idaho Log Restoration, We have a Snorkler Chinking pump that dispenses chink material in bulk to get your house done faster. some contractors will apply chink with 12OZ tubes, but we find that takes much longer and creates a lot more waste.
