Frequently Asked Questions

What is sandblasting?

Sandblasting is a process in which sand is propelled at high speeds to clean or etch a surface. It can be used to remove paint, dirt, and other contaminants from a variety of objects and surface types. In the case of log homes, sandblasting is needed to strip away old stain and ready the sandblasting for a fresh coat.

Why do log homes need to be sandblasted?

Log homes may need to be sandblasted to remove old finishes, stains, and/or damaged wood. Sandblasting effectively strips away these layers and prepares the logs for a fresh finish or treatment. It helps restore the natural beauty of the wood and addresses issues like weathering, discoloration, and decay.

If you have any questions about the importance of sandblasting, contact log home experts, here at North Idaho Log Home Restoration!

You can also view our past projects for examples, such as this home we restored in Hayden, Idaho.

How long does it take to restore a log home?

The time it takes to sandblast, treat, and stain a log home can vary based on factors such as the size of the house, the condition of the logs, and the equipment used. North Idaho Log Home Restoration has top-of-the-line equipment and has restored countless log homes in the Pacific Northwest.

With our combination of high-quality products and expertise on blasting and staining, we pride ourselves in restoring log homes efficiently–and to the highest standards! You can contact log home experts by online form or phone!

How do I maintain my log home?

There are several things you can do to keep your log home healthy and looking great! We always advise our customers to do the following:

  1. Perform regular inspections to check for signs of damage, such as checks in the wood, mildew growth, or rotten logs.
  2. Reapply stain and/or a clear coat every few years to ensure the wood is protected from moisture, UV rays, and insects. Gentle washing of the log home is also recommended. We are happy to outline a coatings’ maintenance plan for our customers!
  3. Gutter maintenance is another way to keep your home healthy! We often see log damage due to improperly placed (or missing!) gutters that have allowed water to build up around the logs. Water-damage often leads to log rot!
How much will a log home restoration cost?

As you might imagine, the cost of a log home restoration will vary widely based on factors like the size of the home, its condition, and the extent of restoration required. Certain additional costs, such as renting a boom lift, may be required, depending on the home’s accessibility (for example, lifts are needed for homes with difficult to access peaks, such as those located on a hill). The best way to know the price of a restoration for your log home is to give us a call for a quote! You can use our online contact form to get started, or you can call us at 208-225-6965.
