Rot Repair

Sometimes log homes experience concerning levels of rot. If this applies to you, you’ve come to the right place.

Being Log Home restoration professionals, we encounter a lot of rotten logs. After so many restorations, we are well versed in the process of Rot repair.  Generally our process begins with identifying a rotten log. We look for signs like water stains, sagging walls, bugs going in and out, wood chunks falling off or missing, and hollow sounds when you pound on the log.

After we identify rotten sections, we make a plan to replace the log. Generally, we will cut the rot out with a chainsaw, grinders, and chisels. (Think of it like fixing a cavity at the dentist). After all the rotten wood is removed, we will rut a perfect replacement piece on our sawmill. This tool gives us the ability to make our own rot repair sections.

After we have our rot replacement section cut on our sawmill, we will insert the new section where the old rot was. Sometimes we need to use jacks or a skid steer to hold the house up while we complete the repair. after the repair section is in place, we will bring it smooth with the surrounding logs to make it look like a seamless repair. Our goal on every rot repair is to make it look like the section was never repaired.
